Evangelism

The mission of Grace United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ. One of the ways we do that is by growing greater through Evangelism. Following are some of the ministries that fall under this area.

Evangelism Purpose Ministry Team

The Evangelism Purpose Ministry team is responsible for telling people about the good news of Jesus Christ and, specifically, how God is using that good news at Grace United Methodist Church to transform lives. The Evangelism Team focuses on three areas: (1) inviting people to a relationship with God and to relationships with with other believers at Grace, (2) welcoming our guests and letting them know that they are loved and accepted at Grace, and (3) connecting our guests to a small group or area of ministry where God can use their talents and gifts to transform even more lives. The Evangelism Purpose Ministry Team meets the first Tuesday of every month. For more information on the Evangelism Ministry Team, contact the church office (phone: 217-429-5374, email: info@decaturgrace.org).

Advertising

Grace United Methodist Church advertises through a variety of media including television, newspaper and radio. If you have experience and/or talent in advertising, graphic design or related areas and would like to get involved at Grace, contact our Business Manager, Pam Wentworth, in the church office (phone: 217-429-5374, email: pwentworth@decaturgrace.org).

Ambassadors (Greeters)

Welcoming our guests is a very important job at Grace United Methodist Church. We want to make sure all people who come into our church feel welcome and accepted. Ambassadors serve on Sunday mornings by greeting those who enter our doors; but ambassadors do much more than just say “good morning.” Ambassadors are special representatives of Grace United Methodist Church who try to help our guests make connections by introducing them to people and groups with similar interests. If you are a “people person” and wish to serve in this important ministry, contact the church office (phone: 217-429-5374, email: info@decaturgrace.org).

Information Center

The information center, located in the narthex, includes a kiosk for the display of literature, news and announcements about activities at Grace UMC as well as an information desk which is staffed by volunteers who try to assist people who may have questions about Grace. If you would like to help with the information center by either maintaining the kiosk or staffing the information desk on Sunday morning, contact the church office (phone: 217-429-5374, email: info@decaturgrace.org).

Screendoor Ministry

At Grace, we have an active “screendoor ministry”—a group of people that contacts our first-time guests to tell them we are glad they joined us and to answer any questions they may have about Grace United Methodist Church. For more information on our Screendoor Ministry, contact the church office (phone: 217-429-5374, email: info@decaturgrace.org).

Television Ministry

Grace United Methodist Church televises an hour long worship service on WBUI-TV at 11:00 a.m. every Sunday. Our television ministry is executed by a talented staff of cameramen who operate from various locations in the sanctuary and who communicate via headsets with the director who oversees the entire production from the GUMC-TV control room. If you are interested in this exciting area of ministry, contact GUMC-TV producer, Gary Boldt (phone: 217-422-8658, email: gboldt@insightbb.com). For more information, click here.

Website

Grace UMC maintains a website (you’re looking at it!). If you have a talent for web design and would like to get involved, contact the church office (phone: 217-429-5374, email: info@decaturgrace.org).
