Music

Music is an important part of our worship at Grace United Methodist Church. There are opportunities for people of all ages to participate in the music program at Grace. For more information contact our choir director, Jason Garrett (phone: 429-5374).

Traditional

We take pride in the tradition of great music here at Grace. We have always been known as a church that values sacred music. From the Chancel Choir and Bell Choir to our fantastic organist and vocal soloists, Grace sets the standard on traditional, sacred worship of our one true God. For more information about the traditional music program or how to get involved, call Jason Garrett at 429-5374.

Contemporary

It is so much fun to praise the Lord! In the Fresh Start service, we pull out all the stops. From fast-paced praises to mellow, worshipful songs (as well as a few originals in between) we are sure to have something for everyone that has a taste for what is hip. For more information about the contemporary music program or how to get involved, e-mail Carol Cox at decaturcox@hotmail.com.

Ensembles

If God has gifted you musically, we invite you to share your gifts with us through one or more of our various ensembles…

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir is our flagship traditional ensemble. If the Lord has put a song in your heart, we invite you to come and join us is worshipping Him. We meet downstairs in the choir room every Wednesday night at 7:15 and every Sunday at 10:15. We perform every Sunday during the Great Start (10:50) service. There is no tryout required. We only ask that you be High School age or older and have a desire to worship God through singing.

Adults are invited to participate in Chancel Choir, which rehearses from 7:15 on Wednesdays and 10:15 every Sunday. The Chancel Choir sings every Sunday at the Late Traditional service (10:40–11:40 a.m.) and also prepares special presentations during Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter. For more information about Chancel Choir contact our choir director, Jason Garrett (phone: 429-5374).

Handbells

The Bell Choir is one of the most fun traditional ensembles at Grace. If you’ve always wanted to participate in a music program but don’t feel gifted as a singer or instrumentalist, then this ensemble is for you! Even if you are a gifted musician, there is a place for you in the Bell Choir. No musical experience is necessary, though. You only need to be willing to learn and have fun! We rehearse every Wednesday downstairs in the choir room at 6:00, and we perform one Sunday per month.

If you are interested in ringing handbells, there are opportunities throughout the year, particularly during Christmas and other special services, at which the handbell ringers provide music. For more information, contact Jason Garrett (phone: 429-5374).

Praise Team

The praise team here at Grace is responsible for leading the Fresh Start congregation into the presence of the Holy Spirit every Sunday morning. Singers in this ensemble perform every Sunday on a rotational schedule. The praise team rehearses every Wednesday in the sanctuary at 6:30.

The Praise Team is comprised of the Praise Singers and the Praise Band. The Praise Singers lead the worship and music at the Fresh Start service (Sundays, 9:30–10:20 a.m.) singing contemporary Christian praise music and Top 40 Christian hits. The Praise Band accompanies the Praise Singers. The band includes guitars, bass, keyboard, drums and a variety of wind instruments. The Praise Team rehearses every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. For more information about the Praise Team, contact Carol Cox at decaturcox@hotmail.com!

Praise Band

The praise band is the completion of the praise team and is one of the best instrumental ensembles here at Grace. The band performs every Sunday during the Fresh Start (9:40) service. They rehearse with the praise team every Wednesday in the sanctuary at 6:30. If you want to join, contact Carol Cox at decaturcox@hotmail.com

WOW! Wednesday Children’s Music Program

Children in kindergarten through 6th grade are invited to participate in the WOW! Wednesdays Music/Activity Time from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. every Wednesday. The younger kids (kindergarten through 2nd grade) begin with music at 4:30 while the older kids (3rd grade through 5th grade) have activities. Then at 5:15 they switch so that the younger kids work on activities while the older kids have music. These young singers also have opportunities to provide music at worship services including a Christmas Musical.
